Chino Quake in Pennsylvania

I don't know whether it's a joke about Californios or a joke about MSNBC.

There was a news story on MSNBC yesterday about the Chino Hills earthquake, right before the first airing of Hardball.

They interviewed someone who had been on an escalator when the quake hit.

To their credit, they didn't say, "Oh, my God, you could have been trapped up there."

It was the strongest quake in California since the Northridge quake in 1994. Nobody was hurt, and there was only minor damage, according to the governor.

I'm not sure why the governor said anything. There wasn't anything to say. If he would have said, "No comment", would the news media have made a big deal, trying to blame the quake on him?

Here in Pennsylvania, the quake was readily apparent on seismographs. They do north/south, east/west, and vertical traces, both globally and locally. The traces, although fairly quiet, started to get a little noisier about 3 hours before the quake hit. If that's true of every quake, it's interesting, but I'm not sure how valuable it would be, to know that somewhere, there's likely to be a quake sometime. If helps, if you need to jump, to know you're not jumping from the frying pan to the fire.
