The canthook is a tool used to change the orientation of a pole or post once it has been set in the ground. Thus, The Canthook seeks a different orientation to familiar topics.

MSNBC leans strongly to the Democratic side, but they're not entirely one-sided. Ed Shultz would defend the Democratic party if they voted to legalize assault and battery, if the victim was attempting to light up a cigarette. Keith Olbermann is less so; he deliberately ignores Democratic activities that he finds embarassing, though, while highlighting GOP activities that are equally offensive. Chris Matthews is so busy holding meetings of the Chris Matthews Admiration Society that he scarcely notices what is going on. Rachel Maddow and Andrea Mitchell are obviously Democrats, but they try hard to exhibit journalistic integrity. If Norah O'Donnell has a political bone in her body, it's hard to tell, but that may be because she is so incredibly handsome, it's hard to see past her face.
On the other hand, Joe Scarborough is a pseudoconservative that, of late, has been breaking more and more with the GOP leadership and leaning towards traditional GOP conservativism, and Pat Buchanan is a hard-liner Nazi, having recently written a book scolding the UK for standing up to Adolf Hitler. It was unnecessary, it seems; Winston Churchill was a fool. Buchanan seems to be the only leading pundit of that particular political persuasion, as MSNBC seems to have no others, and the other "news" channels don't have any, either.
"News" in Quotes
I put "news" in quotes, because none of them - CNN, CNN Headline, Fox News, MSNBC - are engaged in broadcasting news on a 24 hour basis, as Ted Turner originally proposed as the mission of CNN, when the oldest of those channels was established. Of course, I suppose I ought not be surprised. They don't have music videos on MTV any more, and A&E mostly broadcasts gritty crime documentaries instead of arts and entertainment.
In any case, this morning, Pat Buchanan recommended that "Todd Palin ought to take Levi down to the creek and hold his head underwater until the thrashing stops". Which, I suppose, is part of the "final solution" for Mrs. Palin. Next, of course, would have to come David Letterman, and every other comic on television, and all the leading Republicans, and all the Democrats, leading or not.
Boy, I wouldn't miss Letterman's show tonight for anything. There's sure to be some good zingers about this.
Solving Unemployment
That would leave about 3200 people alive nationwide, wouldn't it? I mean, even we have made fun of Mrs. Palin's views on abstinence, and we were supporting Mrs. Palin for vice-presidential candidate more than a month before all the newscritters in Washington, New York, and Atlanta were telephoning Alaska to find out how "Palin" is pronounced.
Well, I guess that would solve the unemployment problem. Somebody would have to dig a lot of graves....
The Buchanan Name
Many of us old-timers remember Edgar Buchanan, from a long acting career culminating in "Petticoat Junction" in the 1960s.
There is Keisha Buchanan, of the Sugarbabes, who is better at taking her clothes off than she is at music; she is good at taking her clothes off, though. Ken Buchanan was a Scottish boxer who admittedly had a nice left jab 40 years ago, but he was a lightweight.
Of course, there was Lancaster's Jimbo Buchanan, America's only bachelor president, long regarded by many as the worst president in the nation's history, although any honest appraisal would point out that Richard Nixon and Dubya have disgraced the office while Jimbo refused to act to prevent secession of the southern states, believing it to be unconstitutional to do otherwise.
Sweet Dreams
Roy Buchanan, a british guitarist, hit #40 in the charts in 1973 with "Sweet Dreams".
Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney is a law firm that is currently cutting pay for associates and firing legal secretaries.
And then, there was the Buchanan family of One Life To Live, who own Buchanan Enterprises. I've never watched the show, but I'm told that while soap operas have many unbelievable events, the Buchanans rank among the most absurd, including twins born to Viki Buchanan fathered by different men. The events surrounding the Buchanan family and Buchanan Enterprises follow in the clownish tradition of the Buchanan name.
How sad. Every family has a black sheep; the Buchanans seem to have little else.
Keith Olbermann wasn't shy about his biases during last year's Dem primary. His regular lambasting of Hillary is certainly an example of his willingness to attack Democrats. Olbermann has also paid close attention to the Obama administration's policies concerning prisoners at Guantanamo and the preservation of the Bush surveillance state. Does he hold back his venom often reserved for Republicans? Perhaps, but I think your assertion that Olbermann "ignores" the failings of Dems is somewhat flawed.
