A 6.3 intensity quake hit near Taiwan Monday afternoon at 2:05 PM New York time. This would have been 2:05 AM Tuesday morning, Taiwan time.
No Damage Reported
Some years ago, there were silicon chip factories in Taiwan damaged by earthquake. Prices for memory chips and for things using them skyrocketed and it took close to a year to come back down. There were 125 reports of feeling this quake at USGS's website, most all of them reporting that it was very mild.
For Google Earth fans, it was at 23.997°N, 122.177°E (+- 4.3 miles), at a depth of 15.3 (+- 12.4) miles. This location would be
60 km (40 miles) E of Hua-lien, Taiwan
75 km (45 miles) SSE of Su-ao, Taiwan
135 km (85 miles) SSE of T'ai-Pei, Taiwan
150 km (95 miles) SE of Hsin-chu, Taiwan
LA Gets Hit, Too
There was also a 3.2 quake 2 miles west of Lennox California at 12:14 AM today New York time (9:14 PM Monday local time. Normally, I wouldn't post such a slight quake, but as long as I was posting another quake anyway... This quake was 11 miles from the Los Angeles Civic Center, at a depth of 11 miles.
