I've been hearing complaints for at least 15 years, because Lane Bryant depicts rather skinny models, rather than using models that resemble most of clientele. I agree.
When Lane Bryant wanted to run this ad on ABC and Fox, it turned down this ad for THREE RE-SHOOTS before ABC would run the ad in "American Idol". Fox finally consented at that point to running the ad in the last ten minutes of the "Dancing With The Stars" show. They complained that the ad showed too much cleavage, although they don't have any problem with the much more edgy Playtex and Victoria's Secret ads.
The difference is that the Lane Bryant ads have a plus-size model - and a fairly thin plus-size model at that.
NAAFA points out that "fat" is not a four-letter word. They are quite happy with it, as it's a fairly complimentary term. People live off the fat of the land. You'd enjoy it if you boss offered you a fat raise. What they object to is "overweight", asking "what weight is acceptable before you start criticizing them?"
And yes, fat women can be quite beautiful. Camryn Manheim is gloriously fat, and she was incredibly sexy in "The Road To Wellville." April Flores is fatter yet and sexier. Personally, I wish they'd have had Kathy Bates answer the door in a lot less Saran Wrap in "Fried Green Tomatoes."
Yeah...
That woman is HOT...my husband says he likes something he can hold onto - not a stick like Olive Oil.
I do NOT think that commercial is offensive.
Screw ABC and Fox.
